Wildcats’ Hepler earn CJHL 3 Stars honourable mention

CALGARY, Alta. – The Gongshow CJHL 3 Stars for the month of January 2016 are Scott Conway (Penticton Vees, BCHL), Brandon Biro (Spruce Grove Saints, AJHL) and Alex Smith (Flin Flon Bombers, SJHL).

1st STAR – SCOTT CONWAY, F, Penticton Vees, BCHL (12 GP, 18 G, 11 A, 29 PTS, 2.42 PPG)

Scott Conway of the Penticton Vees is the CJHL 1st Star of the Month for January 2016. Conway had 18 goals and 11 assists in helping the Vees go 10-2 to secure top spot in the Interior Division. The native of Basingstoke, England was named 1st Star on four occasions and had three game-winning goals. He had points in each game of the month and had multiple-point outings in nine of Penticton’s 12 games. Conway had three hat tricks in January, including back-to-back in the first two games of the New Year. Conway is committed to NCAA Div. I Providence College for next season.

2nd STAR – BRANDON BIRO, F, Spruce Grove Saints, AJHL (11 GP, 13 G, 10 A, 23 PTS, 2.10 PPG)

Spruce Grove Saints forward, Brandon Biro, is the CJHL 2nd Star for the Month for January 2016.  In 11 games played, Biro scored 13 goals and 10 assists for 23 points and 2.10 points per game. Through the month of January 2016, Brandon Biro recorded 2 game winning goals, his second hat trick of the season and 8 multi-point games.  He was selected as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game twice and ended the month on an active 5 game point streak.  Brand Biro (Sherwood Park, AB) is second in team scoring with 47 points (17th overall) and leads the league with 1.5 points per game.   The 17 year-old forward has committed to Penn State of the NCAA Division I. Biro and the Saints are 9-1-0 in the last 10 games and have 9 regular season games remaining.

3rd STAR – ALEX SMITH, F, Flin Flon Bombers, SJHL (11 GP, 9 G, 15 A, 24 PTS, 2.20 PPG)     

The CJHL 3rd Star of the Month for January 2016 is forward Alex Smith of the Flin Flon Bombers.  Smith collected points in all eleven games for the month, scoring 9-goals and 15-assists along the way.  He capped the month with a scholarship to Michigan Tech and he also passed last year’s scoring champion, Travis Mayan, for the league lead in points as he enters February with 26-goals and 46-assists, two points ahead of Mayan.  Among the highlights for Smith were three straight 3-point games to kick off the post-Christmas schedule and he had multiple point games in eight of the eleven overall.
