Wildcats earn 2-1 decision over Eagles

ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – An Alec MacKenzie marker 67 seconds into the third period was the difference maker as the Elliot Lake Wildcats topped the visiting Soo Eagles 2-1 Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest at Centennial Arena.

The low-scoring affair did not see its first goal until 5:23 into the second stanza when Elliot Lake’s Artur Terchiyev notched his third of the season.

MacKenzie then staked the Wildcats to a two-goal lead early in the final frame, much to the delight of the nearly 500 spectators in attendance.

The Eagles would get one late to dash the shutout attempt of Elliot Lake’s Aaron Mackay as Evan Ketner tallied with just 12 seconds remaining to round things out offensively.

Mackay did earn the victory in the end however, which was his first in the NOJHL, making 20 stops along the way.

Jack Hickey had 23 saves in defeat for the Eagles.
