SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that goaltenders Owen Say (Powassan Voodoos) and David Bowen (Rayside-Balfour Canadians) along with forward Connor Taylor (Elliot Lake Wildcats) have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending Oct. 27.
OWEN SAY, (G) POWASSAN VOODOOS – The 18-year-old London, Ont., product continued his winnings ways for league-leading Powassan last week as he racked a couple more triumphs to give him a NOJHL-best 12 victories to date.
Say only allowed two goals-against in the time frame in decisions over Kirkland Lake and Hearst while lowering his goals-against average to 1.82 on the campaign and raising his save percentage to .941.
The Voodoos stopper is an impressive 12-0 to begin his tenure in the NOJHL as he sits second in average and tied for top spot with his save mark.
Say is also knotted for the league lead in shutouts with two.
CONNOR TAYLOR, (F) ELLIOT LAKE WILDCATS – The Elliot Lake captain etched his name on the score sheet in all three contests his club had last week helping the Wildcats earn their first two wins of the season and also during a narrow one-goal setback.
In all, the 20-year-old from the Illinois community of Pekin, scored twice and dished out four assists in those three match-ups.
Currently boasting a league season-high 13-game point streak, Taylor has collected seven goals and a dozen assists during that span.
He enters play this week tied for sixth in league offensive production, having accumulated 22 points on seven markers and 15 helpers. His strong play has also seen him contribute to 49% of the Wildcats goals they have scored so far this season.
DAVID BOWEN, (G) RAYSIDE–BALFOUR CANADIANS – In a pair of road starts over the weekend, Bowen backstopped a short-staffed Rayside-Balfour squad to one-goal victories over the Soo Thunderbirds and Soo Eagles.
The 18-year-old from Markham, Ont., finished with 48 stops in all and sported a .923 save percentage to help the Canadians climb closer to the top of the NOJHL’s West Division standings.
His nine wins so far this season rank second among all league netminders on a rookie-laden Rayside-Balfour side.
