Rayside-Balfour picks up 4-1 triumph in Elliot Lake

ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – Matthew Dokis-Dupuis had a late insurance goal to go along with a pair of earlier assists to aid in a 4-1 triumph by the Rayside-Balfour Canadians over the Elliot Lake Wildcats in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Saturday at Centennial Arena.

First period play was scoreless thanks to the efforts of the starting netminders in Elliot Lake’s Dominic Boily and Rayside-Balfour’s Sebastien Plamondon.

Heading to the middle session, the Canadians would open the night’s scoring 35 seconds in on Benjamin Hatanaka’s 11th to give the guests the lead.

The Wildcats countered with the equalizer six minutes later though when Noah Minns notched his 11th to level the proceedings.

Midway through the session, Rayside-Balfour regained the lead thanks to Noah Serre as his seventh made it 2-1 in what proved to be the eventual game-winner.

Moving on to the third, the Canadians extended their cushion four and a half minutes in on another by Hatanaka as the visitors went up by a pair.

They then capped off the road victory in the late going as Dokis-Dupuis rounded out the scoring at 17:37 with an empty netter.

Plamondon finished with 23 saves to win his second straight start while Boily faced 39 attempts in a losing cause for the Wildcats.
