NOJHL Showcase in Sudbury a week away

SUDBURY, Ont. – It’s just one week away from the upcoming Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League Showcase at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex in Sudbury.

All 12 NOJHL clubs will be competing in the two-day event, which runs Tuesday, Oct. 11 and Wednesday, Oct. 12.

In all, there will be a dozen league contests played that all count towards the NOJHL’s regular season standings with six games being played Oct. 11 and another six on Oct. 12.

Admission to the NOJHL Showcase is just $5 a day for adults and students while children under 12 will be admitted free.

Currently there are over 30 scouts already confirmed to attend the event ranging from NHL Central Scouting, NHL clubs, NCAA and CIS programs as well as members of OHL team management and scouting staffs.

All NOJHL games are available online, via pay-per-view, at FASTHockey.com.

BLIND RIVER BEAVERS: Max Khull has collected a team-high 10 points so far this season with five tallies and five helpers. … Newcomers Yianni Liarakos and Vincent Robbins are close behind with nine points apiece. … Robbins leads all NOJHL defenceman in assists with nine. . His point total also ties him for the most among D-men. … Blind River has already won four times under new head coach Kyle Brick. … The Beavers fourth win last season didn’t come until mid-November.

COCHRANE CRUNCH: Entering play this week, Cochrane (No. 8 CJHL) remains the lone NOJHL side to lose in regulation so far this season with a 7-0-1-1 record. … September Gongshow Gear player of the month Braeden Cross leads the Crunch and league in goals, assists and points with 10, 12, & 22 respectively. … Brandon McReynolds sits fourth in NOJHL offensive numbers with nine markers, seven helpers and 16 points. He’s also tops in game-winning goals with three. … Goalkeeper Leighton Williams shares the league-lead in wins so far with six.

ELLIOT LAKE WILDCATS: Ty Hannaford is averaging close to a point-per-game for Elliot Lake so far this season. Hannaford has 10 points in 11 outings on four goals and six assists. … Curtis Rawn is second on the squad with nine points. … Netminder Matt Kostiw was named one the most recent NOJHL’s Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the week.

ESPANOLA EXPRESS: Patrick Smith paces the Express so far with a dozen points. His 10 assists are the third most in the league. … Smith has a six-game point streak on the go while Dominck Lavergne and Riley Smith have points in five straight. … The trio of Aaron Roschinsky, Dominik Lavergne and Nate Viberg share second in team scoring with nine points each.

FRENCH RIVER RAPIDS: Caleb Rich leads the Rapids in scoring with 11 points in as many games. … Gregory Trudeau-Paquet leads all NOJHL rookies in both goals and points with eight and 10 respectively.

IROQUOIS FALLS ESKIS: Iroquois Falls rookie D-man Phil Caron is presently riding a six-game assist and point streak. … Caron was tabbed the NOJHL Gongshow Gear rookie of the month for September. … He leads all league rearguards in offensive production with nine points. … Caron’s offensive totals are also the second most among all rookies.

KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS: First-year forward Kevin Ford leads the Gold Miners in points with 15 while teammate Ashton Amaya is right behind him with 14. … Victor-Olivier Courchesne is third in the NOJHL in goals-against average at 2.46 and sixth in save percentage at .910.
