SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced today its Eastlink TV 3 Stars for the second week of the 2014-15 campaign.
Garnering week 2 Eastlink TV 3 stars accolades are Elliot Lake Wildcats forward Alec MacKenzie, Cochrane Crunch goaltender Matt Young and Soo Thunderbirds forward Nick Sicoly.
ALEC MACKENZIE, (F) ELLIOT LAKE WILDCATS – In the Wildcats first two games as a franchise, the 18-year-old Ottawa native had six points to pace Elliot Lake offensively.
He began by notching two assists, including setting-up the club’s first-ever goal, in a season-opening setback at Sudbury on Wednesday.
Two nights later MacKenzie tallied twice and doled out two more helpers leading the Wildcats to their first-ever victory, a 7-3 decision over Mattawa.
MATT YOUNG, (G) COCHRANE CRUNCH – Making his second start of the season Friday the 20-year-old Kingsley, N.B. product kicked out all 37 shots he faced to post a 5-0 shutout at Powassan as he helped spoil the Voodoos’ home opener.
Young is 2-0 early on the year with a 2.50 goals-against average and a solid .933 save percentage.
NICK SICOLY, (F) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – It was an impressive NOJHL debut for the 16-year-old Sault Ste. Marie forward who made the jump to Jr. A hockey in fine style in the Thunderbirds 12-1 romp over the Blind River Beavers Sunday.
Skating for his hometown team, Sicoly notched a hat trick and added two assists to commence his time NOJHL career with a five-point night.
