NOJHL announces Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced today that Elliot Lake Wildcats forward Connor Scott, Mattawa Blackhawks goaltender Joe Sheppard and Cochrane Crunch forward Cody Gratton have  have been named the Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the week for the period ending Feb. 1.

CONNOR SCOTT, (F) – ELLIOT LAKE WILDCATS – The 19-year-old Scott has impressed since joining the Wildcats last month.

Included in the efforts of the Parry Sound, Ont. product was five points he registered last week helping Elliot Lake earn three victories in as many games.

Scott tallied twice and doled out three assists last week and is averaging a point-per-game early in his tenure with the Wildcats.

The team has gone unbeaten since he joined the team in mid-January with six wins and a tie.

JOE SHEPPARD, (G) – MATTAWA BLACKHAWKS – To say the Blackhawks netminder has seen plenty of rubber fired his way is a bit of an understatement.

In being recognized with Eastlik TV Three Stars laurels this week, the recently turned 20-year-old from Austin, Texas has made 1,126 saves so far this season for the Blackhawks, which is the most by far in the NOJHL this season.

Sheppard has made 337 more stops than his nearest competitor in league play so far in 2014-15.

His save total is also the 12th highest to date in the 129-team Canadian Junior Hockey League

Sheppard also tops all NOJHL goaltenders in minutes played at just over 1,656.

CODY GRATTON, (F) – COCHRANE CRUNCH – The NOJHL’s leading point producer is being honoured in part for his impressive performance in a win at Blind River Saturday.

Gratton played a part in each of the nine goals the Crunch scored in that contest by scoring six times and adding three assists in that contest.

The nine-point night for the 20-year-old from Sudbury matches a league single game high this season with Abitibi’s Brady Clouthier, who accomplished a similar feat back on Dec. 13 vs. Powassan.

Gratton has recorded three or more points in a game 15 times so far this season while leading the NOJHL in points (82), goals (49), shorthanded markers (11) and game-winners (9).
