NOJHL announces  Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that forwards Logan Fredericks of the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners and Chad Lopez of the Elliot Lake Wildcats, along with Soo Thunderbirds goaltender Brendon Gordon have been named the Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the week, for the period ending March 6.

LOGAN FREDERICKS, (F) KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS – An offensive force all season long for the Gold Miners, Fredericks continued his torrid play for Kirkland Lake last week amassing another 11 points in just two games as he earned his way into the Eastlink 3 Stars for a second straight time.

The 20-year-old from Millstone Township, N.J., began by scoring once and doling out four assists in a victory over Timmins on Thursday.

Two nights later he erupted for four markers and chipped in with a pair of helpers as the Gold Miners won at Iroquois Falls.

Since Jan. 9, Fredericks has only been held off the score sheet once in 19 outings and has moved into a tie for fourth in league scoring with 85 points. His 50 overall goals also has him holding a share of the league-lead.

CHAD LOPEZ, (F) ELLIOT LAKE WILDCATS – Playing a prominent role in each of Elliot Lake’s three victories last week was Lopez.

The 18-year-old Texan, who calls Dallas home, tallied twice in each Wildcats triumph helping his club earn decisions over Espanola, Cochrane and the Soo Eagles.

Lopez began with a two-goal, one-assist night in a victory over the Express Wednesday.

Friday evening he tacked on a couple more markers as Elliot Lake topped the Crunch at Centennial Arena.

He then wrapped up his week with two tallies in a victory over the Eagles.

On the season the rookie forward sits third on the Wildcats in scoring with 53 points in 51 games on 22 goals and 31 assists.

BRENDON GORDON, (G) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – A solid first year in Jr. A hockey continued for the 19-year-old, who hails from Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.

Gordon was flawless in both his starts last week as he posted back-to-back shutouts as part of a four-win run for the Thunderbirds.

He began by blanking the rival Soo Eagles Friday night and followed that up by shutting out the Espanola Express Sunday afternoon.

Gordon is now 13-4-0-0 so far this season with the T-Birds and sports a stingy 1.53 goals-against average and a solid .926 save percentage.

His four shutouts are also the second most among all NOJHL netminders in 2015-16.
