Kostiw posts 1st NOJHL shutout as Wildcats blank Beavers 1-0

ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – Matt Kostiw turned aside all 39 shots he faced, including 18 alone in the third period, to post his first Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout as he backstopped the Elliot Lake Wildcats to a narrow 1-0 decision over the Blind River Beavers Friday night at Centennial Arena.

It was a goaltender’s duel throughout with both Kostiw and Blind River’s Aidan Doak keeping opposing shooters at bay through a scoreless first two periods of play.

Elliot Lake would finally break the stalemate midway through the final frame as Connor Harding collected his initial league tally with 9:54 remaining. Nick Long and Brett Jacklin earned assists on the play.

Kostiw and his teammates did the rest in keeping the Beavers off the scoresheet in the contest to record the close win.

Doak finished with 27 stops for Blind River in defeat.
