Hepler’s hat trick leads Elliot Lake over Blind River

BLIND RIVER, Ont. – Cole Hepler scored three times and assisted on another to help lead the Elliot Lake Wildcats to an 8-3 victory over Blind River Beavers in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Wednesday evening at the Blind River Community Centre.

The Beavers got things going offensively early in the contest as Cole Murray connected 25 seconds in.

Hepler answered that with tallies four minutes apart before the first period was complete to put the visitors up by one.

Elliot Lake then erupted for six more goals in the middle stanza compared to one by Blind River to take control of the game.

Shane Woolsey, Spencer MacLean and Hepler made it 5-1 for the Wildcats before Liam Sweeney got one back for the Beavers at 7:24.

The Wildcats countered that by scoring three more times before the session was complete on a Ty Hannaford effort along with a pair from Liam Blais.

Joseph Eben added a third period shorthanded goal for the Beavers midway through to round out the scoring.

Ned Simpson, Chad Lopez, Spencer Allen and Troy Button all chipped in with two assists apiece for Elliot Lake in the win while Jay Sidhu had a pair of helpers for the Beavers in defeat.

Aaron Mackay made 31 saves to pick up the triumph in net for Elliot Lake.

Tyler Ryan started for the home side and suffered the loss allowing five against on 20 shots.

Martin Miloslavich then faced 35 attempts in nearly 33 minutes of relief while giving up the final three against.
