Hepler; Anderson power Wildcats past Eskis

ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – Cole Hepler had a goal and two assists while netminder David Anderson made 32 stops in his Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League debut to help power the Elliot Lake Wildcats past the Iroquois Falls Eskis 6-2 Friday night at Centennial Arena.

Elliot Lake came out quickly in this one striking three times in the opening period to take control of the contest.

Liam Blais got the first one for the Wildcats at 5:13, who added later efforts off the sticks of Artur Terchiyev and Spencer Allen as they took a 3-0 lead into the middle frame.

Hepler helped extend the lead for the home team 14 seconds into the session with his third tally of the season.

Jack Speer struck for his first in an Eskis uniform to make it 4-1 at 13:39.

Iroquois Falls came right back after that and added another just 14 seconds later thanks to David Osborne’s team-leading 10th of the campaign.

In the third however, Alec MacKenzie picked up his 10th during an Elliot Lake power play midway through the stanza and then wrapped up the scoring on a Spencer MacLean effort at 12:34.

Nathan Campbell had two assists for the Wildcats in the triumph.

Anderson was victorious in his first game for Elliot Lake finishing with 32 saves while Josh Horner was pelted with 50 shots in defeat for the Eskis.
