Eskis upend Wildcats 6-3

ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – Iroquois Falls Eskis captain David Osborne tallied twice while teammates Tanner Bowditch and Jacob Erwin had a goal and two assists apiece to help their side upend the Elliot Lake Wildcats 6-3 Friday night in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at Centennial Arena.

Osborne and Erwin staked the visitors to a 2-0 first period lead before the Wildcats’ Connor Rider got one back for Elliot Lake with just 20 seconds left in the opening frame.

Each side would tally once in the middle stanza with Marco Luciani getting one the Iroquois Falls at 4:45 while Alec MacKenzie added one on the power play for Elliot Lake at 13:29.

Garry Mindus made it 4-2 Eskis with his fourth of the season at 2:22 of the third before Chad Lopez brought the Wildcats back to within one with 14 and a half minutes to go.

The man advantage helped Iroquois Falls put the game away late as they got man advantage markers from Bowditch and Osborne in the final three minutes to seal the road win.

Joe Sheppard had a big night in the Eskis net as he made 42 saves in backstopping his club to the triumph.

Aaron Mackay started for Elliot Lake and allowed three goals on 11 shots before giving way to Al Rogers the rest of the way.

Rogers, who entered the contest after Luciani’s marker, suffered the loss in relief facing 15 attempts overall.
