Elliot Lake doubles up Blind River 6-3
ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – The Elliot Lake Wildcats got a pair of goals and as many assists from Cole Hepler as he helped lead his club to a 6-3 win over the Blind River Beavers in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Friday at Centennial Arena.
The lone marker of the first period came off the stick of Elliot Lake’s Alec MacKenzie at 6:10.
Hepler made it 2-0 nine minutes into the middle session as he extended a consecutive game point streak to seven.
The Wildcats kept coming and tacked on two more before the session was complete from MacKenzie and Hepler to make it a 4-0 game after 40 minutes.
Planning on a comeback, the Beavers came out hard in the third and started off with a power play marker 56 seconds into the session by Ted Davis.
A minute and 42 seconds later Blind River struck again courtesy of Quintin Wheeler to make it a 4-2 game.
The Beavers kept coming an pulled to within one with 14:46 to go as Wheeler scored again and caused Elliot Lake to replace starter Aaron Mackay in favour of Al Rogers the rest of the way.
It was a move that helped the Wildcats settle down and regain their focus as they came back and made it 5-3 at 12:04 thanks to team captain Spencer MacLean’s 18th of the season.
Elliot Lake then got some insurance with just over seven minutes to go as Evan Look notched his initial NOJHL tally to round out the scoring.
Hepler, MacLean and Curtis Rawn all had two assists apiece in the win while Alex Dajia had a couple helpers for the visitors.
Mackay stopped 23 of 26 in picking up the victory for Elliot Lake with Rogers stopping all seven sent his way in relief.
Martin Miloslavich saw 43 shots in a losing cause for Blind River.
