Wildcats earn road win vs. Eagles

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – A quick start by Elliot Lake Wildcats helped them earn a 3-2 road victory over the Soo Eagles Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Pullar Stadium.

The power play allowed Elliot Lake to take a two-goal after one period of play on man advantage markers courtesy of Artur Terchiyev and Chad Lopez.

Sault Ste. Marie drew closer 56 seconds into the middle session as they got one back via the power play as Nate Harris tallied for the 10th time this season.

Cole Hepler extended the Wildcats lead to 3-1 at 8:47, which held to the second intermission.

The Eagles did get another back while up a man at 3:32 of the third with Alex DiBacco scoring for the homeside in what was the final goal of the night.

Spencer MacLean of Elliot Lake and Gord Helmuth of Sault Ste. Marie had two assists apiece in the contest.

Aaron Mackay made 32 saves to record the win for the Wildcats.

Jack Hickey faced 34 shots in defeat for the Eagles.
