Tozer scores winner in Wildcats’ debut in victory over Express

ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – Matthew Tozer’s first goal as a member of the Elliot Lake Wildcats 2:53 into the third period proved to be the game-winner in his Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League debut helping his new club defeat the Espanola Express 3-1 Friday at Centennial Arena.

Action in the opening frame saw Espanola collect the lone tally of the frame when Martin Lavigne notched his fourth of the season at 13:41.

Elliot Lake drew level 12 and a half minutes into middle stanza when Taylor Woolcott tied things up for the home side.

After joining the Wildcats from Aurora Tigers of the OJHL, Tozer made an immediate impression by putting Elliot Lake in front early in the third as he connected during a man advantage opportunity.

The power play allowed the Wildcats to get some insurance with 6:15 remaining in regulation on Brett Jacklin’s 11th of year to help secure the win.

William Bucsis supplied two assists for Elliot Lake.

Matt Kostiw made 29 saves to record the victory for the Wildcats while Logan Sawka saw 36 attempts fired his way in defeat for the Express.
