Thunderbirds finish unbeaten at home in regular season play

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. – The Soo Thunderbirds capped off an unbeaten regular season as the home team Wednesday as they defeated the visiting Elliot Lake Wildcats 4-0 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest held at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

Connor Ryckman was spotless stopping all 19 shots he faced to run the T-Birds current streak of not allowing a goal to 156 minutes and 34 seconds.

Mark Tassone provided the eventual game-winner 3:33 after the opening face-off to give Sault Ste. Marie the early lead.

Ryan Mulligan notched his seventh of the campaign just under five minutes later as the Thunderbirds led 2-0 through one period of play.

Izaak Del Mastro added to the cushion 7:03 into the middle session as he collected his eighth tally overall.

Tassone then supplied his second of the evening and 13th in 2015-16 at 15:05 of the stanza to round out the scoring.

Matt Pinder and Brett Jeffries aided the Soo cause with a pair of assists each.

While Ryckman posted the shutout, Al Rogers gave up four against on 36 shots in defeat for the Wildcats.
