Team NOJHL blanked by OJHL Hawerchuk at Eastern Canada Cup

TRENTON, Ont. – OJHL Hawerchuk struck for a pair of early tallies before the contest was two minutes old before going on to defeat Team NOJHL 3-0 Tuesday afternoon in Day 2 action at the Eastern Canada Cup All-Star Challenge in Trenton, Ont.

The Ontario Junior Hockey League side picked up the only goal they would need in the match-up 59 seconds in on a Christian Dedonato marker.

They then came back on the next shift and added another at 1:42 courtesy of Mitchell Martan.

Play tightened up from there with the score staying at 2-0 until the latter stages of the affair when Brock Welsh supplied some insurance for OJHL Hawerchuk to round out the scoring.

Former Powassan Voodoos netminder Mario Cavaliere turned aside all 17 shots he faced in the two-period contest to post the shutout for the OJHL side.

Brandon Gordon (Soo Thunderbirds) faced 22 attempts in defeat.

Team NOJHL will wrap-up competition at the 10-team event Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m. against OJHL Coffey.
