Serre scores 2 as Beavers bounce Wildcats

BLIND RIVER, Ont. – Caleb Serre scored twice to reach a team-leading 15 on the season to help his Blind River Beavers bounce the Elliot Lake Wildcats 7-1 Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at the Blind River Recreation Centre.

Blind River got off to a good start thanks to Dylan McMahon, who collected his seventh of the season four minutes after the opening face-off.

A quick beginning in the middle stanza allowed the Beavers to go up by a pair as Serre collected his first of the night 49 seconds into the period.

It was more Blind River midway through the night as Owen Robinson picked up his 12th tally to make it 3-0 for the home team.

The Beavers continued to press and were rewarded with another marker before the second period was complete on a Steven Khull effort at 17:44.

Max Khull would up the Blind River cushion in the third before Elliot Lake’s Evan Spencer and Serre for the Beavers traded power play goals later in the period.

Jack Sampson’s initial league marker then finished off the one-sided decision for the home side.

Ryan Cullen chipped in with three assists to help the Blind River offensive cause.

Michael Corson was the winning goaltender on the night making 34 stops along the way while Logan Sawka faced 60 attempts in defeat for the Wildcats.
