NOJHL names  Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Tuesday that Zachary Kercz of the Timmins Rock, Alec MacKenzie of the Elliot Lake Wildcats and Jeran Knorr of the Cochrane Crunch have been named the Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the week for the period ending Oct. 18.

ZACHARY KERCZ, (F) TIMMINS ROCK – In two outings during the week that was, Kercz was instrumental in helping Timmins skate to a pair of victories while also aiding the club extend a season-high winning streak to five games.

The 20-year-old from Aurora, Ont., began by doling out three assists as the Rock rallied for a 4-2 come from behind triumph over Espanola on Friday.

Zercz then took to the ice Sunday afternoon and tallied twice, which included the game-winning goal, and dished out two more helpers as Timmins topped 6-5.

Boasting four straight multi-point games to his credit, the Rock forward leads his team in offensive production with 25 points, which also ties him for fifth best in the NOJHL.

ALEC MACKENZIE, (F) ELLIOT LAKE WILDCATS – In three road games last week the 19-year-old from Orleans, Ont., picked up six points helping the Wildcats go 2-0-1 overall.

Among his efforts was a goal and two assists Friday as Elliot Lake earned a point in an overtime setback at Cochrane.

One night later he scored once more and set-up two others as his club came away victorious in Iroquois Falls vs. the Eskis.

He capped off the road trip with a strong defensive effort as Elliot Lake edged Kirkland Lake 2-1 in double overtime.

MacKenzie is currently playing at over a point-per-game pace with 15 in 13 contests and leads the Wildcats in scoring while also sharing the team lead in goals with seven.

JERAN KNORR, (F), COCHRANE CRUNCH – The 18-year-old Kelowna, B.C. product is certainly making the most of his rookie season in the NOJHL early on.

Knorr racked up 10 points for the high-scoring Crunch in three games helping them go 2-1.

He began with a hat trick and an assist Thursday as Cochrane topped Espanola 9-5 and that was followed by a pair of helpers Friday as the Crunch got by Elliot Lake 6-5 in overtime

Knorr capped off his run with a couple of tallies and set-up two others as the Crunch were edged 6-5 at Timmins on Sunday afternoon.

On the season he leads all NOJHL Rookies in scoring with 26 points, which is also the fourth highest total in the league.
