Elliot Lake’s Richer blanks Blind River

BLIND RIVER, Ont. – Elliot Lake Wildcats netminder Justin Richer stopped all 38 shots he faced to post his first Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout as he and his teammates blanked the Blind River Beavers  Saturday at the Blind River Community Centre.

Action in the first period saw the Wildcats collect the only tally they would need on this night as Brett Crook notched the eventual game-winner at 10:58 of the frame.

It remained a goaltender’s battle through the second stanza which was scoreless as the guests carried their slim lead into the final session.

Liam Sweeney’s third of the season 2:19 into the last period added some early insurance for Elliot Lake while Carson Andreoli iced it with an empty net effort with 83 seconds to go to round out the scoring.

Myles Hektor was solid in defeat for the Beavers saving 34 of the 36 attempts he saw on the night.

In earning the victory the Wildcats improved to 7-5-0-0 on the campaign while Blind River dipped 4-5-0-0.
