Allen OT hero as Wildcats edge Gold Miners

KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – A Spencer Allen goal 3:26 into the second overtime lifted the Elliot Lake Wildcats to a 2-1 come from behind victory over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners Sunday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

Kirkland Lake got on the board with the lone tally of the opening period as Brandon Wolfe buried his ninth of the season eight minutes into the contest.

After a scoreless second stanza, Elliot Lake battled back to force extra time as Matthew Colunga notched the equalizer with his initial NOJHL tally with 10:20 remaining in regulation.

Heading to OT, neither side would end it in the first extra session with the teams going four skaters aside.

Moving to three players each in the second OT, Allen won it for the Wildcats to give them the additional point in the game.

Aaron MacKay made 25 saves to record the win for Elliot Lake.

Marc Audet finished with 23 stops in defeat for the Gold Miners as they picked up a point.
